SLJ Badges 2024

Here are the badges I have earned from Summer Learning Journey 2024-25  Tasks.  If you click on the badge it will take you to the blog post I did to get the badge.  The triple dip badges are for doing 3 of that weeks activities. I have learnt lots of new stuff on my chrome book and really enjoyed doing the activity’s.  I did have to get some help from my big brother on how to do things like animations and mum helped me with the blurb for my blogs by checking it made sense and corrected the spelling.

I am really proud of myself for giving SLJ a go as I have not done a lot of chrome book work at school as I am only year 3. I have managed to complete ALL of the activities that were posted (other than a few Te Reo Maori ones that I was not able to translate – but I gave the ones I could translate with family help a go).  I am even more proud because one of my posts even got shared on the out standing blog post that is put up every Saturday.

I CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR TO TAKE PART AGAIN

SLJ Ocean Science – Kick Start

Today I tried the ocean signs kick start activity.  It was about why the ocean is blue.  I learned the ocean is blue because of the way the light hits it and breaks down the colors blue is the last color to be broken down.  You can learn more about this in my step it up ocean science activity.

I had lots of fun doing this experiment with water and a few drops of milk and a torch. I really love science and doing experiments.

SLJ The Big Deep – Step it up

I learnt all about going deeper and deeper into the ocean and what you see and find.   When you go deeper the ocean gets darker and darker until its so dark you can’t see anything.

My task today was to create a board game.  I made one with sea creatures you would find a g travel deep into the ocean.   Some have facts others have things to do.

SLJ Why is the Ocean blue? Step It Up

For Why is the Ocean blue? Step It Up I learnt why the ocean is blue I then completed this slide show and had to create an underwater picture to show what lives where in the ocean and what happened to the  blue the deeper you go.  My last slide tells you how the water is blue and has some pictures of how I understand it.

SLJ Submarine Fun – Step It Up

Bob the Diving Turtle

For today’s Step It Up activity I was to create a cartesian diver in a bottle.  I was not able to watch the videos so I looked up my own.  I decided to add a little turtle to my pen top to make a diving turtle.   I really loved doing this activity.  Here is my turtle diving video. (please ignore my mum’s arm I found it hard to squeeze the bottle so she helped me)  the turtle sinks and floats because of the air bubble in the pen top and the density of the water.  when I squeeze is cause it to sink as the air is pushed up.  when I release the bottle it makes the pen lid to float.  I managed to make him bob up and down by changing the pressure when I squeezed.

SLJ Submarine Fun – Kick Start

Today’s kick start was to learn about Submarine’s and either draw one on paper, colour one in using website or draw one on Google draw.  I decided to do all 3 and for my drawing on paper I removed the background and added in one from Google search.

Can you spot the camouflaged sea animal in the first picture?

Did you know:

  • submarines are called subs for short.
  • scientists use submarines to explore the ocean and study ocean life.
  • a submarine has a ballast tanks that they open to fill with water to let them sink.
  • propellers move submarines through water.
  • they use engines, batteries, nuclear power or a combination to power the sub.
  • use complex equipment to find their way through deep dark oceans.
