The Big Deep Kick Start activity was all about Anglerfish. I watched some videos on them to learn about them. They live in the pitch black deeps of the ocean and survive down there. Here is a picture I drew of an Anglerfish and then I copied it to make a labels picture.
SLJ Fold & Frame – Step It Up
For the fold and frame Step It Up activity I used my origami sea creatures to create a short stop motion story. I have never made a stop motion on my own or on my chrome book before so I got some help from my big brother. There is no sound.
This is my stop motion:
SLJ The Big Deep – Step it up
I learnt all about going deeper and deeper into the ocean and what you see and find. When you go deeper the ocean gets darker and darker until its so dark you can’t see anything.
My task today was to create a board game. I made one with sea creatures you would find a g travel deep into the ocean. Some have facts others have things to do.
SLJ Fold & Frame – Kick Start
For fold and Frame kick start activity I was to make some origami sea creatures. I managed to make 2 fish but then I needed help from my family to do the crab and the turtle. The turtle was the hardest one it took us a lot of attempts. No one in my family is very good at origami we all need to practice.
Here is the fish, crab and turtle and last weeks fish we made
SLJ Te Ruapekapkea (Te Reo Māori) – He taumata anō
For this activity I learnt about what a Pa is and what it was used for. I was to create a Pa on paper but I decided to create one in minecraft. This is what I made
SLJ Why is the Ocean blue? Step It Up
For Why is the Ocean blue? Step It Up I learnt why the ocean is blue I then completed this slide show and had to create an underwater picture to show what lives where in the ocean and what happened to the blue the deeper you go. My last slide tells you how the water is blue and has some pictures of how I understand it.
SLJ Submarine Fun – Step It Up
Bob the Diving Turtle
For today’s Step It Up activity I was to create a cartesian diver in a bottle. I was not able to watch the videos so I looked up my own. I decided to add a little turtle to my pen top to make a diving turtle. I really loved doing this activity. Here is my turtle diving video. (please ignore my mum’s arm I found it hard to squeeze the bottle so she helped me) the turtle sinks and floats because of the air bubble in the pen top and the density of the water. when I squeeze is cause it to sink as the air is pushed up. when I release the bottle it makes the pen lid to float. I managed to make him bob up and down by changing the pressure when I squeezed.

SLJ Kick Start Shell – ebration
Here is my Kick Start Shell – ebration activity where I created a picture frame from shells, and I have put a picture of a turtle in it to go on my wall.
SLJ Submarine Fun – Kick Start
Today’s kick start was to learn about Submarine’s and either draw one on paper, colour one in using website or draw one on Google draw. I decided to do all 3 and for my drawing on paper I removed the background and added in one from Google search.
Can you spot the camouflaged sea animal in the first picture?
Did you know:
- submarines are called subs for short.
- scientists use submarines to explore the ocean and study ocean life.
- a submarine has a ballast tanks that they open to fill with water to let them sink.
- propellers move submarines through water.
- they use engines, batteries, nuclear power or a combination to power the sub.
- use complex equipment to find their way through deep dark oceans.
SLJ Waka – Step it up
Here is my Waka Step it up activity. I made my boat from recycled materials and floated in in my pool.
